The hardest conservation challenges rarely belong to a single discipline. Wildlife health intersects with land use and human health. Biodiversity protection collides with emergency management. Environmental policy succeeds or fails based on what can actually be implemented on the ground. And decisions made for people, animals, and ecosystems are too often made separately, even when the consequences are deeply connected.

Undaunted Consultants exists to work in those spaces between disciplines.

We partner with governments, conservation organizations, wildlife and animal health programs, businesses, researchers, and cross-sector coalitions confronting environmental problems that demand more than a single kind of expertise. We bring together science, law, policy, animal health, and strategy to help organizations understand complex problems, bring the right people to the table, and turn good ideas into frameworks and actions that can work in the real world.

Undaunted is led by Jacey Roche, DVM, JD, MPH, a conservation veterinarian, attorney, scientist, and strategist whose career has been deliberately built across fields that rarely sit at the same table. That breadth changes how she approaches a problem.

As a veterinarian, Jacey understands animals not simply as populations or policy considerations, but as living individuals whose health and welfare depend upon functioning ecological systems.

As an attorney and former complex civil litigator, she brings a different set of tools: the ability to interrogate assumptions, navigate competing interests, understand regulatory and governance systems, construct persuasive arguments, and find a path forward when the facts are complicated. Her policy experience has included work across multiple levels of government on issues including land use, disaster and flood recovery, and public health.

As a multidisciplinary conservation scientist, Jacey brings these perspectives together through biodiversity conservation and One Health. Rather than treating human health, animal health, and ecosystem health as separate policy problems, her work asks how we design systems capable of protecting them together.

Her ongoing work translates those insights into actionable policy, preparedness frameworks, communication strategies, professional training, stakeholder engagement, and practical approaches to biodiversity protection before, during, and after wildfires and other climate-amplified disasters.

But disaster preparedness is only one application of a broader philosophy.Undaunted works from the premise that many of today's environmental challenges are not suffering from a lack of knowledge. They are suffering from fragmentation: science separated from policy, policy separated from operationalization, wildlife separated from landscapes, and human priorities separated from the ecological systems upon which they depend.

Our work is to connect those pieces.

Outside of her consulting and research, Jacey continues to practice small-animal emergency medicine and is a wildlife and nature photographer. Her photography reflects the same philosophy that informs her professional work: curiosity about the relationships between animals, people, landscapes, and the systems that connect them.
